The Palmer Public Library has an opening for an assistant youth services librarian to organize and lead library programs for preschool, kindergarten, and elementary school-age children. We are looking for a motivated, innovative, extroverted individual to collaborate with librarians and teachers in the schools. This librarian assists with development of collections of children’s material in the youth department, and works shifts at public service desks, helping patrons of all ages as part of a team committed to exceptional patron service.
This professional position requires knowledge of children’s literature, and an understanding of child development. The job also requires excellent computer skills, including the ability to help patrons use the library’s digital resources on a wide variety of electronic devices. This is a full-time position (35 hours/week). Hours include one evening per week and occasional Saturdays.
Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred qualifications: An American Library Association-accredited Master of Library Science degree; at least 1 year of experience working in a public library.
Salary: $18.00-20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Full benefits as a Town of Palmer employee. This is a bargaining unit position in AFSCME Local 1364.
