McArthur Public Library, located in Biddeford, Maine, is currently accepting applications for two part-time Circulation Assistants.
As Biddeford has continued to develop in an exciting way that is drawing attention all over Maine, our library continues to the be the center of the downtown community. We have a very busy Circulation department and this team is the vital front face of the library.
Each position requires a minimum of 2 evening per week and alternating full day Friday or Saturday shifts. Additional flexible hours may be available when needed to cover extra busy times during programs or staff absences. It could be possible that both positions are combined and filled by one person, depending on their scheduling availability.
The successful candidates must have outstanding customer service skills, a great sense of humor, be energetic and very detail-oriented, tech savvy and expert multi-taskers. Previous library experience is a big plus!
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Serving patrons via face to face interaction, computer, Internet, phone;
Using library software to register patrons for library cards, check in and check out library materials, processing overdue notices and bills for lost items, and collecting fines & fees;
Shelving returned materials in an accurate and timely nature as well as regular shelf-reading;
Processing Interlibrary loans, both outgoing and incoming deliveries (running lists, retrieving the materials, checking them in, packing and unpacking, and preparing items for pick up);
Cleaning/repairing library materials as needed and the processing of new materials, preparing them for addition to the collection;
Answering and rerouting phone calls;
Participating in meetings and workshops to maintain and develop skills;
Performing opening and closing procedures.
The position requires physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift and carry up to 25 lbs over 60% of the time. The ability to stand for long periods of time performing tasks at a computer workstation is a must.
The pay range for this position begins at $12.75/hour, depending on experience.
